Understanding the generation and emplacement of batholiths in space and time is fundamental for the link between volcanism and melt extraction from the interior of the Earth. The 4-D Adamello conference (Bagolino, Italy 5.9.-12.9.2012) will provide a platform to present and discuss results from batholith research. In addition fieldtrips to the Adamello and its surroundings provide an opportunity to discuss recent advances of Adamello-related research. Several oral and poster sessions will be directed to discuss processes, such as melt generation and extraction; magma chemistry, evolution and fractionation; physical and numerical modeling of magma propagation; crystallization processes during ascent and emplacement; thermal evolution of magma bodies and contact aureoles; time-scales of magma generation and crystallization
