The impact of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada on language work with Indigenous communities
(This question is mandatory)

Thank you for taking this survey! Your responses will help Nicholas Welch (Memorial University of Newfoundland) and Jennifer Thorburn (University of Lausanne) get a sense of how work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) has impacted research on language with Indigenous communities in the country. It should take 10-15 minutes to complete.

They plan to use the results of this survey in a publication that will also discuss our own experiences working with Indigenous communities in Canada over the past 20 years.

Your participation in this survey is voluntary and your responses will be kept anonymous and confidential. We will collect both sociodemographic information and your comments on your experiences working with Indigenous communities and the research environment as a whole. We may quote selected responses in publications. Any comments that are quoted will be de-identified to protect your identity. Nevertheless, due to the small size of the population that engages in this kind of work, it is possible that informed readers may be able to identify you from your comments. Your anonymous answers will be archived for 5 years, as required by Memorial University’s policy, then deleted.

You are welcome to skip any questions you do not wish to answer. Your results will only be saved when you click the “submit” button. Until that time, should you decide you don’t want to participate, you can simply close the browser and no data will be retained. After clicking submit, you will no longer be able to withdraw from the study as the survey does not ask for directly identifying information.

Completing this survey will help us better understand the impact of the TRC on language work with Indigenous communities, which will hopefully lead to policy improvements. There is no physical or financial risk to you from participating in this study. Should you feel uncomfortable as a result of this activity, we encourage you to contact a local counsellor.

The survey was created using the LimeSurvey platform, whose privacy policy is available here.
